We would like to thank the TransCanada Corporation for their generous support of the Save Our Monarchs joint venture with the Nebraska Public Power District to restore Monarch butterfly and other pollinator habitat on NPPD-owned and right-of-way properties. With this support, the Save Our Monarchs Foundation will seed and maintain a 48-acre parcel near the Beatrice Power Station in Gage County as a first step towards its goal of significantly participating in and contributing to the national effort to plant one billion milkweeds throughout the Monarch Flyway next year.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Interlachen Country Club to help us officially launch Save Our Monarchs at our 'Plant A Seed' Party. The event was well-attended and hugely successful thanks to all of your generous donations and the great media coverage we received from WCCO Radio, Star Tribune and KSTP TV.

We had some great speakers at the event including Ward Johnson, Executive Director or Save Our Monarchs and Dr. Ed Schneider, Director of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

So much has happened -- it's been quite a whirlwind of activity! We now have a signed agreement with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum! The Arboretum and Save Our Monarchs are collaborating in an alliance to increase habitat for the monarch butterfly.

The Arboretum will be educating its visitors and other audiences about the importance of planting milkweed for the monarch’s survival. This summer, the Arboretum will be distributing the Foundation’s milkweed seed packets at classes, field trips and other educational events both on and off-site, as well as during membership drives and in the Arboretum’s gift store.

At the board meeting of the Save Our Monarchs Foundation, we had a lively discussion about the reason for the disappearance of our beloved butterfly. We decided that regardless of the reasons for their declining numbers, what was most important was to explain that the best and only solution was to plant more milkweed. Our mission is simple -- other organizations may educate, while we plant -- one milkweed at a time.
