We're Gardeners Who Love Butterflies
Who is the Save Our Monarchs Foundation?
The SaveOurMonarchs Foundation is a grassroots 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed by a family of six families who share the passion to rescue the endangered monarch butterflies.
We are a hands-on group, who get our fingernails dirty, planting milkweed plants – the monarch caterpillar's only source of sustenance.
It’s truly the most direct, hands-on way to save the Monarch Butterflies.
Gardeners Helping Gardeners
While planting more milkweed seeds is how we will save the monarchs, there's a right and a wrong way of going about it.
Planting milkweed in the right location is critical. That's why we're not just distributing milkweed; we're working with other gardeners to ensure the seeds are planted and cared-for properly.
Our goal is to send out 1,000,000 milkweed seed packs in 2017 through a growing network of people like you -- people who care about the future of our endangered butterfly.
Irvin and Gladys – Our Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from Irvin and Gladys Johnson, who spent their vacation travels sowing milkweed seeds. Concerned about the declining numbers of monarch butterflies, they sowed seeds along roadways, in parks and in areas adjacent to wetlands.
Even after Gladys died, Irvin travelled to Mexico where he planted Oyamel fir trees where monarchs hibernate during the winter.
How We'll Save Our Monarchs
How will we do this? Our plan has two simple components:
Calling All Garden Club Members!
