We're Gardeners Who Love Butterflies

Who is the Save Our Monarchs Foundation?

Save Our Monarchs is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to saving the embattled monarch butterflies.

We are a hands-on group, who get our fingernails dirty, planting milkweed plants – the monarch caterpillar's only source of sustenance.

It’s truly the most direct, hands-on way to save the Monarch.

Gardeners Helping Gardeners

While planting more milkweed seeds is how we will save the monarchs, there's a right and a wrong way of going about it.

Planting milkweed in the right location is critical. That's why we're not just distributing milkweed; we're working with other gardeners to ensure the seeds are planted and cared-for properly.

Irvin and Gladys – Our Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from Irvin and Gladys Johnson, who spent their vacation travels sowing milkweed seeds. Concerned about the declining numbers of monarch butterflies, they sowed seeds along roadways, in parks and in areas adjacent to wetlands.

How We'll Save Our Monarchs

How will we do this? Our plan has two simple components:
  • Plant: SaveOurMonarchs Foundation is reaching out to individuals and organizations and asking them to help the monarchs by planting milkweed.
  • Promote: We are working hand-in-hand with several organizations including Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Foundation. We will also be working with arboretums, state fairs and butterfly conservatories to help spread the word.

Calling All Garden Club Members!

We need you! If you're a gardener who's also concerned about the future of our disappearing butterflies, please sign up and we'll send you milkweed seeds to plant in your garden.
